"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
— Carl Rogers

THE NAME

Why Moody?

My last name is Moudy, pronounced like cloudy. Growing up, very few people got it right. Teachers, coaches, new friends: most called me Moody. At first it was just a simple mispronunciation. Then it became a nickname. And somewhere along the way, I internalized it.

I was sensitive. I felt things deeply and often. When your brain also leans towards OCD or anxiety, feeling discomfort seems like someone just pulled the internal fire alarm. The urgency to “understand” or “find meaning in” your feelings and experiences can be debilitating. I spent years trying to control my internal world for fear of what might happen if I didn’t. It took a while, but I eventually learned (through the right kind of therapy) that my feelings and experiences weren’t the issue; the constant reasoning, ruminating, and reaches for control were making things worse.

Moody Counseling is the reclamation of the word. Being moody isn't a character flaw. And it certainly isn’t something OCD or anxiety convinces you needs to be fixed, controlled, or fully understood before life can begin. This practice exists to help you stop battling with the obsessions, intrusive thoughts, uncertainty, worry and all!

sincerely, erin
